MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 2018
I. INTRODUCTIONS
The meeting was called to order by the MMBWOA President, Introductions were made around the room by each attendee, and stating where they live on the bay. There were 29 attendees at the meeting.
II. PROCEDURE FOR DERELICT AND/OR TRESPASSING VESSELS
Go out to www.matsmatsbay.com website for the procedures to evict a derelict and/or trespassing vessels. Six boats were ejected from the bay for overstaying from late 2017 to July 2018.
III. NUMBERING SYSTEM FOR WATERFRONT OWNERS BUOYS
Proposed a numbering system for our buoys, using the last 4 digits of our tax parcel number. He would use a high density plastic and emboss the number on this plate and attach to the buoy.
IV. PROPOSAL TO COMBINE ANNUAL MEETING AND BBQ
The Association will be scouting a location that we can combine next years meeting and the BBQ. Last year we lost almost half the people from the meeting to the BBQ.
V. CURRENT DERELICT BOAT STATUS
There is a 5 day limit for visiting vessels, then they must move for 30 days before they can return to visit. John J often rows out to welcome boats to the bay, find out where they are from, and offer them to come up for a glass of wine. John B. and Martin greet them on the tail end of their visit and encourage them to leave, if they have overstayed.
Currently, the trimaran on the bay is the only un-sponsored vessel. Martin will be contacting the waterfront owner on whose parcel the boat is parked.
VI. GUEST BUOYS AND MATS MATS BAY FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER
The idea for guest buoys was proposed so that visiting vessels would not be putting down anchors and tearing up the bottom of the bay. Discussion ensued about putting in 4 guest buoys, how much they would cost, capacity of buoys, people volunteering buoys they currently have that they are not using to be guest buoys, maintenance of buoys, and ultimately the liability associated with providing buoys to guests. The proposed festival would have paid for the buoys, but there was not general consensus that buoys were needed.
VII. MEMBERSHIP DUES FOR 2018-2019
Monica reported on treasury balance and following the meeting accepted yearly dues and new members, both waterfront owners and associate members (those on bluff, or around the bay that are not waterfront owners, but are concerned about the bay).
VIII. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Ann asked for nominations from the floor for new board members. No nominations were made. The current board will remain for another year:
IX. MISCELLANEOUS
(a) North End of Bay Marker - There was discussion about the map of the bay and marking the north end. It is considered a "Pandora's Box" as far as the pie wedges go and would cost a great deal to survey. Therefore, this exercise will be deferred.
(b) Budget - Several members suggested that if we need to raise more money for something, then we should raise the annual dues.
(c) Creosote logs - There have beena half dozen creosote logs collected that have floated into the bay. We would like to get rid of them, as they are toxic, but the Creosote Abatement program is no more. Martin said he will try and find the right agency/group to get rid of these.
(d) Oyster seeding - there was discussion of who was seeding oysters in the bay, where they got them, and who has clams and mussels.
General health of the bay - Martin suggested that we invite Nam, a marine biologist on the channel to speak at our next meeting.
The meeting was ended and discussions continued at the anual BBQ. .
